Half a dozen Old Town Development Trust members visited Balerno this morning to find out what Balerno Village Trust has been doing. They are already running a very successful farmers market, they are looking to set up a community hydro-power scheme on the Water of Leith, and they are setting up a Sustain Balerno project which will, amongst other things, increase the availability of locally grown food and assist people in making sustainable transport choices.
All agreed that it was good to establish more links with a well established trust and learn from their expience. |

The following appears on the capital's radio station Forth One
"It was once Europe's most populous street but now residents are warning the Royal Mile, and the rest of Edinburgh's Old Town, is facing a mass exodus of locals.
The newly-established Edinburgh Old Town Development Trust is likening the area's plight to that of Venice, where high living costs linked to an influx of tourists have left the city's historic centre with just a few thousand locals.
Residents in the capital's Old Town are calling for more affordable homes and family-sized accommodation which will encourage people to move into the area.
